Kym Marsh has embraced a brand-new chapter in her career, and her latest project has taken her far beyond the familiar streets of Coronation Street. While working on a new drama overseas, she found herself surrounded by unfamiliar faces, surprising connections, and a setting unlike anything she had experienced before and the journey turned out to be much more than just another acting job.

Major Moment for Coronation Street Star

The former Coronation Street star, who now appears in Waterloo Road, travelled to Australia to film The Imposter, a four-episode British/Australian drama created by Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison. The story centres on a woman who reconnects with the mother who gave her up for adoption. Marsh took on the project knowing she would be working on the other side of the world, and she admitted that despite being 49, it marked the furthest she had ever travelled alone.

CS/ Kym Marsh opens uo about major friendship

She shared that she boarded the plane by herself for a six-week shoot without any family support, but the cast and crew quickly helped her settle in. The actress explained that her new colleagues made her feel instantly comfortable, describing how she felt as though she had known them for years even though she had only just met them. That sense of belonging carried through the entire production and opened the door to unexpected friendships.

The Friendship Fans Didn’t See Coming

Marsh revealed that she bonded especially well with Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne, who plays the woman she believes to be her mother, though the show deliberately leaves the truth hanging. Marsh described Woodburne as an extraordinary presence and noted that she saw her as a kind of TV royalty because of her long and respected career. She said Woodburne looked out for her during filming, knowing she had arrived in Australia without knowing anyone.

Marsh recalled how supportive and kind Woodburne was, adding that they even went out for dinner and that she felt genuinely welcomed into her co-star’s world. She expressed that she expects their friendship to last for a very long time. Marsh also reflected on meeting Dannii Minogue, the Home and Away alum turned Club Disco star, The X Factor judge, and host of I Kissed a Boy/Girl.

Although Marsh said they only shared a single moment together on camera, she still described Minogue as warm, friendly, and lovely with everyone on set. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all your Coronation Street updates.
