It’s been a fiery few months for the rap world since Drake and Kendrick Lamar started throwing dirt on each other’s names. While the duo started on a positive note and even promoted their music, things took a darker turn in 2013. It later led to the rise of a never-ending feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Although the feud began in 2013, things took a nasty turn in 2024 after Lamar released the most-unexpected rap track. It quickly took things to the next level, forcing Drake into the warzone. Since March 2024, fans have been on their toes, trying to figure out when this feud will end. But what is this feud all about? Let’s see!
How Did The Beef Start?
Well, things were not dramatic between the two from the beginning. In fact, the rappers shared a beautiful relationship and collaborated back in the 2000s. Despite their different tastes in music, with Drake using a more poppy sound and Lamar’s music being more into lyrics, their collaboration always turned out to be the hit tracks.
Their relationship escalated in 2011, when the duo was named the future rap superstars after the success of their debut albums, Thank Me Later and Section. 80. Later, Drake invited Kendrick Lamar to open for his ‘Club Paradise’ tour. They even collaborated on the latter’s second album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.
However, their relationship strained after Lamar made a diss track. In his 2013 track Control, Lamar called himself the ‘King of New York,’ while he rapped to murder Drake in his track. This immediately made things dramatic between the two.
Although Drake commented that Lamar would not go to murder him on any of the platforms, their friendship soon soured. Since then, the duo has made many subtle digs at each other. But 2024’s diss tracks have taken things to the next level.
How Did Drake And Kendrick Lamar Beef Become Intense?
There’s no denying that Drake and Lamar are the most successful rappers in the world. Drake has five Grammys and 29 Billboard awards under his belt, while Lamar is the only rapper to have been awarded the Pulitzer Prize. Lamar has also won 17 Grammys so far.
While the rappers have a history of creating music together, they have been throwing dirt at each other through their rapid-fire diss tracks. That has further created problems for their fans. It all began when the duo started insulting each other, which further took a dramatic turn.
With Lamar threatening to ‘kill’ Drake and using pedophilia, Drake assured his fans about his safety. However, his safety later became a topic of concern. That’s because last week, news surfaced that Drake’s Toronto home’s security guard was shot and found severely injured outside the house.
It was later revealed that the person tried to access Drake’s house. While things are under control, fans are still in dismay. That’s because the same incident appeared on Lamar’s Not Like Us. Many immediately concluded that Lamar was behind this. However, investigators have yet to reveal the motive behind this incident.
Drake Vs. Kendrick Lamar’s Beef 2024 Timeline: The Beginning
It all restarted on March 22, 2024, when Lamar appeared on Future and Metro Boomin’s track Like That. In that song, Lamar dissed Drake and J. Cole, referring to their single collaborative track, First Person Shooter. In that song, J. Cole called himself, Drake, and Lamar “the big three” of modern rap.
However, Lamar changed the lyrics in his Like That, stating there’s no “big three,” just “big me.” Not only this, but Lamar also called himself Michael Jackson’s Prince. While Lamar made such changes in the track, Drake returned with his diss track. He once again collaborated with Future and Metro Boomin and released two albums that featured his dislike of Lamar, 20 V 1.
Drake Dropped Push-Ups In Mid-April
Drake and Lamar’s beef soon turned nasty when Drake’s diss track Push Ups leaked. The song directly attacked Lamar’s business dealings, height, and shoe size. Drake rapped, “You ain’t in no big three.” While he threw dirt on Lamar’s name, he challenged Lamar to compete with Taylor Swift as she dropped her Freestyle.
Later, Drake came up with another song that featured the AI-generated voices of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. While Drake used that song as a diss track, the song was removed soon after Tupac’s estate threatened to sue Drake.
Lamar Responded With Euphoria In Late-April
At the end of April, Lamar dropped his next diss track, Euphoria, calling Drake a ‘master manipulator and habitual liar.’ The song also poked fun at Drake’s rapping style and appearance. He even criticized Drake for using racial identity and Lamar’s partner name, Whitney, in Push Ups.
Drake Fired Back On May 3
Lamar didn’t stop there; he then took to Instagram to release his second diss track, 6:16 in LA, on the social media platform only. In which he called Drake a ‘terrible person.’ Lamar also hinted that his mole was working in Drake’s team.
While Lamar released such statements, Drake came up with his diss track the same night. Drake dropped Family Matters, where he accused Lamar of domestic violence and infidelity. He even claimed that he used to hit his partner and hired a crisis management team to clean up his mess. Drake also brought Lamar’s children into the feud.
Just after Drake’s claim, Lamar hit back at the former. Lamar spread serious allegations of abuse against Drake in Meet The Grahams. In that, Lamar opened up about Drake’s family and revealed that he has an alleged 11-year-old daughter. He even accused Drake of having sex with minors. This further created chaos among their fans.
Drake Cleared The Air On May 5
While Lamar called Drake a ‘sexual predator,’ Drake denied any such claims. The rapper dropped another diss track, The Heart Part 6, denying all the allegations and calling them fake and planted. However, since then, both parties have been dropping plenty of diss tracks, which doesn’t seem to end soon.
Fans Are Done With Drake And Kendrick Lamar’s Beef
While the rappers didn’t stop their feud, their fans are done with them. Many accused the rappers of using women’s pain and trauma in their fight. The rappers have been criticized for casually rapping about domestic abuse, child sex abuse, and more.
Although Lamar and Drake haven’t released anything since then, fans don’t want to listen to more of their diss tracks. But will there be an end to this forever-looking battle? Only time will tell. Stay with Soap Opera Daily to know more about Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef.
