Coronation Street Favourite Beverley Callard Joins Fair City
It has been confirmed that Beverley Callard, best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, is joining the cast of RTÉ’s Fair City.
The announcement instantly caught attention, especially among long-time Corrie viewers who followed Callard’s journey on the show for decades. In Fair City, Callard will play Lily, a new character revealed to be the long-lost mother of Gwen Connolly.
That family link puts her straight into an important storyline and gives her a strong connection to life in Carrigstown from day one. RTÉ has already given fans a taste of what Lily is like. She revealed that the character of Lily has actually been in the works for around two years. She added that the team was delighted to cast Callard in the role. De Courcy kept story details under wraps. But did say that Lily will be quite different from Liz McDonald. She also confirmed that Callard has already started filming, adding to the excitement around her upcoming debut.
Callard first appeared as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street back in 1989. Although she left after nine years, she returned in 2000.
