Todd Grimshaw has been living a nightmare behind closed doors, and Coronation Street fans know Theo Silverton isn’t just controlling; he’s dangerous. Now, Harriet Bibby has teased a possible way out for Todd, and it could come from the one person who doesn’t yet see the truth: Summer Spellman.
Harriet Bibby Teases Summer As Todd’s Possible Lifeline
Harriet Bibby has revealed to Inside Soap that she would love to see her character Summer step in and help Todd escape his abusive boyfriend, Theo. While viewers have watched the relationship turn darker, Todd’s loved ones remain in the dark about what’s really happening.
So far, the late Billy Mayhew was the only one who uncovered Theo’s true colours. Billy realised Theo wasn’t the reassuring man he pretended to be, and he saw the abusive behaviour Todd was trapped under.
But Billy never got the chance to expose Theo properly, because he died after the Corriedale car crash. In a horrifying twist, Theo condemned the vicar to death by buckling his seatbelt up as flames rose around him, leaving Billy unable to escape.
Summer has no idea Theo played a part in Billy’s death, and she’s also completely unaware of the abusive dynamic between Theo and Todd. In fact, she sees Theo as a comforting presence, just like everyone else around Todd who still believes Theo is harmless.
Summer Trusts Theo While Todd Hides The Truth To Protect Her
Harriet admitted she would love to see Summer wake up and do something to save Todd, saying that even watching at home, she was thinking, “Come on, Summer, do something!” She added that it would be great to see Summer help Todd get out of such a damaging situation.
Harriet also explained why this connection matters so much, because Todd is now “really all that she’s got left of a parental figure.”
Summer needs Todd just as much as Todd needs her, and Harriet said it would be “lovely” to see Summer step up and support him when he’s at his lowest. At the moment though, Summer is leaning on both Todd and Theo for comfort, because she needs people around her to help her through everything she’s been dealing with. Harriet shared that Summer is “completely unaware” of the horrible situation unfolding between the two men, even though it’s happening right in front of her.
Todd, however, knows exactly what’s going on, and that’s part of what keeps him stuck. He’s aware of the danger and wants to protect Summer because he knows she has already been through something devastating, and he doesn’t want to add even more trouble onto her shoulders.
