Thirty Minute Episodes Lead To More Viewers!
Emmerdale and Coronation Street began airing from 8 to 9 p.m. at the start of January. After looking at the patterns, the soap’s bosses found out that thirty-minute episodes attracted higher fans throughout 2024.
Meanwhile, Kevin Lygo, who is ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, said that the new commission pattern is led by viewers. They have given a choice on how the soap fans watch them through ITVX.
Kevin added that the viewers’ habits continue to change. They believe that it is the right number of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule. Thus, thirty-minute episodes provide the opportunity to meet the fans’ expectations related to the face of the storyline. Furthermore, viewing is also growing on ITVX.
Soap Schedule Thrown Into Chaos Again!
However, the schedules get impacted by sports. The soap fans will face the same issue again next month. In the week starting from February 2, both the shows will be off air for two nights.
On February 3, the Arsenal and Chelsea match as a part of the Carabao Cup will be out at 7:30. Furthermore, on February 5, there is a Six Nations match between France and Ireland. Thus, due to the sports coverage, the fans won’t be able to watch the soaps.
Meanwhile, ITV aired Corriedale to start the new scheduling pattern. In the episode, both Emmerdale and Coronation Street collided. The special episode kicked off with Aaron and John’s car crashing into the vehicle driven by Swains. Thus, a multi-vehicle pile-up occurred. Mack, Cain and Moira were also a part of it. Meanwhile, Corrie’s Billy died in the episode.
