The show played a major part in Elizabeth Kelly’s long acting life. She had made her TV debut on the cobbles back in 1971. She played the character Edie Burgess on the show. However, she started late since she entered television at 50. But Corrie gave her that first big push.
Viewers who watched her at the time often recall her character for being sharp and firm. After Corrie, her career kept moving. She was slowly seen in different shows over the decades. Elizabeth Kelly later became a regular of several TV soaps. It was, however, EastEnders that made her even more recognisable. She took the role of Nellie Ellis, the aunt of Pauline Fowler. She was on the show in more than 100 episodes between 1993 and 2000 and her character often had disagreements with Arthur Fowler. Consequently, the audience got to know and remember her character.
