Queen Camilla Jokes About Taking King’s Duties
The 76-year-old Queen recently visited The Garden Museum in London on June 12. She toured the ‘Gardening Bohemia’ Bloomsbury Women Outdoors exhibit. In an impromptu speech, she confessed that her latest visit was her third to the location in 12 months.
This tour was associated with the female artists of the famed Bloomsbury Group, and she called it a ‘special place.’ The event had a star-studded audience, which included museum president TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh and royal flourish, Shane Connolly.
Furthermore in her speech, she said that she would happily take over patronage of the institution. The Queen joked about wanting to ‘take that one away’ from the monarch. She said, “I don’t know how many visits I’ve paid here – quite a lot.
I know my husband’s patron, but I might have to nudge him; I’d quite like to take that one away from him. It’s such a special place that every time I’m asked, I just like to come back again and I think this wonderful exhibition celebrating women in gardening is so important.”
The King and Queen took on a host of few patronages following Charles’ official ascension in 2023. Queen Elizabeth II held 492 patronages previously and her son has been serving as the patron since he was Prince of Wales. After Queen’s visit, Mr Titchmarsh appreciated Queen’s gardening skills and said that he would be happy to have ‘either or both’ as patrons.
He also spoke of the Queen’s private home in Gloucestershire and said that she has wonderful space to practise gardening. Royal family fans know that Camilla loves gardening and has been open about it.
She spoke about her love for gardening in the documentary, Country Life magazine cover in 2022. “I love gardening. It’s therapeutic… Go into the garden, get on with it,” Camilla said.
