Gemma Atkinson Discusses Emotional Journey After Losing Beloved Dog
Gemma Atkinson recently shared her heartbreak over losing her beloved dog, Norman. The former ITV star revealed Norman’s passing last weekend and has since turned to Instagram to express how she’s been handling the grief. She started by describing grief as a ‘funny old thing’ and something that can hit unexpectedly.
She stated, “We all deal and cope with it differently, there’s no rule book.” Gemma reflected on a recent period where she didn’t train for over a week. She explained that her focus had been entirely on spending time with Norman, her late dog, and described it as an ‘emotional rollercoaster.’
The actress shared that the day she collected Norman’s ashes and then went on to prepare for her child Mia’s birthday was strange. She mentioned that she typically handles physical pain better than emotional pain and tends to distract herself. She even recalled her sister joking about her high pain tolerance during childhood games.
However, her sister was strong in dealing with emotional challenges. The soap star highlighted that everyone copes with grief differently. She shared that she started feeling ‘a little better’ after her first gym session following Norman’s death. She explained that exercising has always been beneficial for her mental well-being.
Atkinson asserted that her main reason for working out is to stay mentally focused and on track. But, she didn’t stick to a specific routine like walking, running, meditation, or yoga. Instead, she did whatever felt right in the moment. Even though thoughts of Norman returned towards the end, after showering and eating, she felt surprisingly good.
She concluded, “The endorphins kicked in and I drove to work singing in the car and did my radio show. Small steps to feeling like me again.” We send more strength to the star, and we really hope she heals. For more Emmerdale spoilers, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily!
