Prince William took a moment from his busy royal schedule to enjoy some soccer action on July 6. Mind you, this wasn’t just any soccer match! It was the UEFA EURO quarterfinals, and England was up against Switzerland. So, the ever-dashing Prince of Wales was in Germany, ready for some nail-biting action at the Dusseldorf Arena. But before the game even started, something utterly delightful caught his eye and cracked him up! What is it?
How a Cheesy Fan Sign Tickled William
So, there was this sign in the stands that Prince William couldn’t help but chuckle at. He and his colleague, Lt. Commander Rob Dixon, shared a hearty laugh over it. The sign, held by a zealous Swiss supporter, reads, “God Save the Cheese.” We all know the British national anthem, right? “God Save the Queen” or “God Save the King,” depending on who’s on the throne.
However, this cunning twist paid tribute to Switzerland’s famous cheese-making heritage. It’s cheesy in more ways than one, and it’s got the future King cracking up. William has always had a soft spot for humour. He once shared Princess Charlotte’s favourite knock-knock joke about an “interrupting cow.” So, seeing him share a laugh over a cheeky sign isn’t too surprising.
As the game kicked off, William was on the edge of his seat, following every move. The match ended in a 1-1 tie, pushing it to a penalty shootout. Interestingly, the Prince of Wales got so animated! A viral TikTok video shows him hopping up and excitingly punching the air. Ultimately, England stood victorious with a 5-3 shootout score, and Prince William’s joy was unparalleled!
He tweeted, “Nail biting to the very end. Well done, @England! Semi-finals, here we come! We believe. W.” As a sports enthusiast, Will has attended several games this spring, often with his son, Prince George. Despite the joy soccer brings, the prince’s life has its fair share of challenges. His wife, Kate and father, King Charles, are both undergoing cancer treatment.
Yet, William remains steadfast, enjoying the sport he loves. Luckily, Kate’s recent attendance at Trooping the Colour marked her first public outing this year.
