Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have kicked off their controversial four-day tour of Colombia, where they will be backing projects aimed at safeguarding youngsters from cyberbullying. The Duchess gave a heartfelt speech about online safety at a panel discussion. Meghan Markle Talked About Online Bullying At An Event
Meghan Markle and her husband, Harry, took part in a summit on a Responsible Digital Future hosted by The Archewell Foundation in partnership with The Office of the Vice President of Colombia and Luminate. The pair appeared alongside Francia Marquez and Maria Ressa, CEO of Rappler and Nobel Peace Laureate. The duo spoke about the need to prioritise humanity and connection over an unsafe digital landscape.
The royal couple has long campaigned for online safety and have previously also talked about online abuse and bullying. They recently launched The Parents’ Network, which aims to tackle child safety and connect families who are grieving by the loss of their kids due to suicide. While speaking at the forum in Bogota last night, Meghan implored people to think about what their parents or grandparents might say before saying something nasty online.
An audience member at the event posted a video online in which Meghan was seen saying, “Maybe your grandmother used to say it to you, ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all’. Amen, Sister! These are words to actually live by. The Duchess also highlighted how this quote can fundamentally change how people around the world connect with each other.

She added “We should model how we want our kids to be raised and for the world in which we raise them. It doesn’t matter where you live. It doesn’t matter who you are. Either you personally or someone you know is a victim to what’s happening online. And that’s something we can actively work on every day to remedy.” Markle also said that the digital world will exist now, and we need to use it properly and keep our children safe from the repercussions of it.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry landed in the country on Thursday where the Vice President welcomed them. They visited a school, enjoyed a musical performance at an arts centre in Bogota, and finally attended an internet safety summit.
