There’s little doubt that General Hospital star Brian Gaskill has made a significant mark in the world of soap operas. The actor has remarkable credits with roles across various shows like Y&R, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, and B&B. However, we all likely remember him best as Rafe Kovich from Port Charles. While all his roles were iconic, Gaskill has one regret from a key moment in his soap opera journey. Find out!
“I Wasn’t Trying to Take It Out on ABC, But…”
Brian portrayed the angel Rafe Kovich on the General Hospital spin-off Port Charles. His character battled dark forces alongside the city’s residents. But, when the show wrapped up in 2003, Gaskill had to make a tough call. The cancellation of Port Charles left him in a tight spot, as he came across two different opportunities.
Moreover, he had the option to either return to his role as Bobby on AMC or join B&B as Oscar Marone. The soap actor ended up choosing the CBS option, a decision that still haunts him! Why? In a recent interview with Soaps.com, Brian shared that moving to CBS was out of reluctance to relocate to NYC. Still, PC’s cancellation and subsequent choice left him with lingering regret.
Gaskill expressed, “I was really heartbroken at the time, and I wasn’t trying to take it out on ABC or anything.” Additionally, he explained that Bobby in his second incarnation would have been more fun. Brian admitted, “I probably would have been more connected to that role than any of them.” Reflecting on that period, Gaskill thought PC might have lasted another year.
He was still considering other career options. After his stint on B&B, he returned to daytime TV on The Young and the Restless earlier this year. Finally, he moved on to As the World Turns and Guiding Light. Furthermore, Brian often wonders if staying with one show for a longer period might have led to a more stable career.
He muses, “Why didn’t I just stay on one of these shows for twenty years?” Despite his regret, he’s eager to return to soaps. He revealed that fans think he can join the soap anytime he pleases. Gaskill laughs. “But I don’t have that power.” Don’t miss out on more such General Hospital celeb tidbits at Soap Opera Daily. Would you like to see Brain on GH? Drop your thoughts below!
