Regular viewers know the simple Walford accountant murdered his comatose wife last month, and now his fiance, Sonia, is paying for his crimes. However, there are twists coming up on this storyline everyday and the actor Jonny Freeman has now exposed the real reason why his character killed Debbie. Keep scrolling to find out.
EastEnders viewers know that Reiss previously smothered his wife, Debbie, after facing significant financial hardship. However, Jonny Freeman, who plays the role of Reiss, has now revealed what led to his killer antics, and it has nothing to do with his past. After Reiss killed Debbie, viewers couldn’t help but wonder if he had tried to hurt his wife in the past as well but the actor has now cleared that up.
We saw Debbie’s mom telling everyone that her daughter wanted to leave Reiss just before her stroke a few years ago and this became evident after the family sat down to read Debbie’s will. It looks like the late wife was not happy with her husband and wanted to divorce him because he was creepy. Although Reiss wasn’t the reason behind Debbie’s stroke, his violent nature came forward when he murdered his better half.

And now, Reiss actor Jonny spoke to The Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards and hinted that there was nothing dark going on when the duo was together. He also mentioned that he had no idea that Debbie was going to leave, and this is not the reason why he smothered her. The actual reason presented by Freeman was that Reiss killed Debbie out of ‘mercy’ and because he thought it’s what she would want.
He told the publication, “I advocate for Reiss as he lost all of his money paying for her care, so in his mind, he’s done right by her. Maybe not by killing her, but even then, I think in his mind, it was consensual, and it was mercy, however mad that might be.” The soap actor also highlighted that he had no idea that Debbie wasn’t happy with him and that was the worst thing that’s happened to him.
