Adam Thomas is popularly known as Adam Barton to Emmerdale fans. The actor who played the character for nine brilliant years on the long-running ITV soap bowed out in 2018. He recently shared a life update with his fans, and unfortunately, it isn’t the best one. The young and talented actor is suffering from a chronic disease.
Adam appeared on the celebrity reality show – Strictly Come Dancing last year. Right before the show, he had revealed to the media about his rheumatoid arthritis. The condition causes pain and swelling in joints in the body. On October 7, 2024, the actor offered yet another health update to his fans. He revealed through social media that his condition had worsened after getting off his previous medication.

“I’ve been taking a lot of painkillers to get me through and they have helped ease the pain.” He added that he is now able to train but the next day his body is just in “bits”. Adam dubbed the post his “arthritis journey”. “So back to the hospital today to try something else,” he pointed out as he will soon try some new medication for his condition. He also asserted that he would stay positive as the journey was going to be long.
Currently, Adam Thomas is busy portraying Donte Charles on BBC’s Waterloo Road and is doing a fantastic job at it. Even though his condition barely ever leaves him pain-free. He admitted that the only time respite that he had recently was during his stint on Strictly Come Dancing. We hope with all our hearts that whatever treatment Adam is experimenting with brings him relief.
