It is going to be a really hard week for Emmerdale fans, as well as, the Dingle family. The spoilers reveal that the legendary character breathed his last in Scotland rather suddenly. Now, in the upcoming episodes, the entire family gets together to mourn their shared loss. Later, Cain and Sam fly off to Scotland to bring Zak’s body home. Meanwhile, the rest of the clan busies themselves to arrange the funeral ceremony.
Even though we are experiencing Zak’s passing on the soap in October 2024, his last scene on Emmerdale aired on June 27, 2023. He had left the village and moved over to Scotland to live with his granddaughter – Debbie Dingle. One of his final clips from the soap showcases him bibbing the horn on his jazzed-up mobility scooter, in his iconic Zak manner.
In the scene, he grabs Dan Spencer’s attention. He jokingly asks the senior if he has driven over any buses lately, and even addresses him as Evel Knievel. Zak jests back saying that the potholes on the road are enough and that he’d ” give the rings of fire a miss.” Dan seemed entertained by Zak’s wit and expressed how wonderful it was to see him out and about like that!
Steve Halliwell arrived in the soap in 1994 and has been a prominent cast member ever since. His character, Zak Dingle, also reached iconic status by being part of many prominent storylines over the years. Thus, it is a huge blow for the soap to lose a true legend like him. Unfortunately, it is a blow that everyone will have to take in their stride, as Zak’s portrayer has passed from the mortal world.
“He went to sleep, peacefully with his loved ones around him. He was making us laugh to the end, the most amazing father and grandfather you could ever wish for, family was everything to him,” Steve’s family said in a statement last December after he passed. Steve will always be remembered for his wit, humor, and warmth.
