Now, the locals near Harry and Meghan’s home are voicing concerns over wealthy foreigners purchasing several coastal properties.
Developers were once barred from building on public beaches in a way that would restrict access, but new regulations have given officials the power to designate a beach as ‘private.’ This move has led to several natural beauty sites being taken away and built on, which prevents locals from being able to access them. One of the locals said, “Worst thing to happen to the Portuguese coast. It’s a typical greed situation. Taking land and property from locals who have been enjoying it for years.”
