Belle Black and Shawn Brady are two legacy characters we hated to lose on Days of Our Lives recently. After battling some marital struggles the two left Salem and headed overseas. When they bod their goodbyes, we thought we would never see them again. Interestingly, so did they! Martha Madison who plays Belle told the media that the makers were letting her go due to budget constraints.
Martha Madison also added that the makers did want to retain her in a recurring capacity. However, she declined the offer because she didn’t think it honored the legacy of the character. In her, as well as, the fandom’s opinion, Belle Black deserves more than just popping up every now and then just to do a legal storyline as a lawyer. It just doesn’t seem right.
Interestingly, even Brandon Boomer has a similar story. The Shawn actor also felt that he had played the last of the characters when he left Salem after his marriage with Belle fell apart. However, both- Martha and Brandon are returning to the canvas as Belle and Shawn to attend Doug Williams’ funeral during the week of December 2-6, 2024. This comes as no surprise because Doug (Bill Hayes) deserves a HUGE sendoff in the presence of all his loved ones.
But what does come as a surprise is the twist in fate for Martha and Brandon. It seems the two actors aren’t done with Days of Our Lives after all. Martha Madison recently told TV Insider that seeing Shawn and Belle at Doug’s funeral won’t be the last that we see of them. It turns out, the new head writers have written some interesting stuff for the characters that will hit the screen in a couple of months.
Martha called the new head writers Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, “chef’s kiss”. She revealed that a lot of new chapters are coming up, and she loves how everything is sort of “crisis crossing”. Furthermore, she added that she’s getting to work with everyone, and there’s a lot of great drama coming. “We’re eight or nine months ahead right now, so it’s going to be a while before you see all of it, but it’s been amazing.”
The popular soap star previewed that even though Shawn and Belle will be sharing scenes, they may not get back together. Instead, there could be a hookup on the cards for Belle and EJ. Which of course will get super awkward when Sami returns later. So, fans can definitely expect fireworks in the future!
