Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new show Polo is getting a not-so-royal reception. The Sussexes remain MIA when it comes to promoting the series about the sport of Polo. Despite being executive producers and bagging a cameo appearance, they haven’t posted about it. Plus, there’s an eerie silence from their supporters coupled with no press events. But guess what? The critics aren’t holding back in slamming this new Netflix release. Check it out below.
Prince Harry: Sussexs’ New Polo Venture FLOPS
Prince Harry and Meghan’s new show has received backlashes from every angle. Many called it a “tedious inside look” and went as far as to label Polo as “the world’s stupidest sport.” It looks like the reality TV angle the US-based royals were going for didn’t land with the masses. They dreamed of creating content that “informs and gives hope.”
However, Polo hit the streaming giant only to be compared with shows like Selling Sunset and The Real Housewives. What’s even weirder is the complete absence of promotional activity. Unlike other Netflix hits, like Jamie Foxx’s special, Polo saw no support.
Hollywood producer Sean McNulty, who knows about the audience’s nerves, shared his thoughts on the matter. He explained, “The lack of a proper, visible press campaign for a series from Harry & Meghan raises an eyebrow.” Furthermore, it’s not just the media backing away but Harry and Meghan’s usual confidants.
Even the Future King Doesn’t Like It
To top it off, even Polo star Nacho Figueras has distanced himself from the show. So, what’s the deal? According to an insider, the series “pretty much [ended] up out of their control.” One reason might be that the bosses at Netflix wanted to make it more commercial. Consequently, the show’s sudden shift from the Sussexes’ vision to reality-TV-style approach didn’t quite work in their favor.
As if that wasn’t enough, Harry’s brother, Prince William, threw a little shade their way. He’s tuning in on Netflix but watching Black Doves instead of Polo. The ultimate burn! It’s safe to say that Polo belongs to Netflix’s dungeon. Keep checking out Soap Opera Daily for more exclusive tea on Prince Harry and other royals. Have you watched Polo?
