According to the latest Coronation Street spoilers, love is in the air as one of the fan-favorite couples gets engaged and takes a significant step in their relationship. The couple has been through a rough patch since they split up in October. However, now, it seems like the duo is over the hurdles – and finally, it’s time for them to be happy. But as with any Corrie storyline, this wasn’t a picture-perfect proposal. Read on to find out how it all happened.
The Heartfelt Proposal
The episode began on a tense note, as Bernie and Dev remained at odds over Joseph and Hope’s recent hoax call. Dev was already stressed after Evelyn quit her job on the spot. As a result, he snapped at Bernie during a heated argument. However, Dev’s concern for his daughter Asha was the real reason behind the heated argument.
Despite their fiery exchange, Bernie later showed up at the shop with a cake and an apology. She then confessed her deep love for the children and clarified that she never meant to replace Sunita. Dev instantly seized the moment and asked Bernie to marry him. He said, grabbing her ring finger – “You know honey, I was wondering why we don’t put a proper ring on that.”
Initially, Bernie hesitated and called herself a “work in progress,” but she then encouraged Dev to ask her again. Dev then asked, “Bernadine Winter, our lives are entwined, our kids’ lives are entwined, my heart is in your hands, let’s make this thing official, yes?” The couple then sealed it with a hug.
Though they headed to Chesney and Gemma to share the news later, they were busy with their celebrations and asked Bernie to babysit instead. Once the kids were off to bed, Dev and Bernie reflected on the proposal and jokingly lamented their missed celebration.
