As if the cash crunch and declining ratings of the ITV soap weren’t enough, the show has been hit by a natural disaster now. It has been snowing in Manchester for the past few weeks and has now covered the whole set in a blanket of snow.
Despite the cash crisis, the show bosses had to splurge on gritters to clear the snow. Besides the trouble actors face while shooting, this is a major problem for the soap’s editing suite, as the episodes are filmed six weeks in advance.
Though there’s no change in filming schedules as of now, how far can they stretch if the weather conditions deteriorate? Manchester Airport closed both its runways on Thursday morning due to snow—but later opened. Even the Met Office has issued five weather warnings. In such a turbulent situation, the mid-ranking and younger Corrie stars are afraid of facing the cuts ahead.
Things got so grim that a WhatsApp group has been created to speculate who might get axed next. Sources also added that more actors will be cut off soon to save the best ones. This includes Jack P Shepherd and Bill Roache. We can’t help but speculate who will be the next to exit Coronation Street.

The ITV soap has faced a series of exits in the past few months. It started with the longest-running actor, Helen Worth (Gail Platt), leaving the cobbles after 50 years. Following in her footsteps, Eileen Grimshaw and Charlotte Jordan also recently quit. And, as per speculations, more exits are to follow.
According to sources, some Corrie actors are not getting enough episodes. Meanwhile, those paid per episode are struggling to pay mortgages. Some are even doing ads and personal appearances to support their income. Even actors like Maureen Lipman and Kate Ford are now surviving on “guest contracts.”
Right now, the show is prioritizing plots on younger cast members who are easy to afford—and if sources are to be believed, there will not be any contract guarantees after 2025.
