California is still experiencing shockwaves due to the wildfire that recently consumed it. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come on the forefront to help those affected by the fire. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have opened their sprawling Mansion to friends and others who lost their homes in the wildfire. The couple even visited a food bank to offer their help with food distribution alongside Spanish chef José Andrés, the founder of the World Central Kitchen.
The city’s mayor, Victor Gordo, graciously acknowledged Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s efforts. By addressing them as “great people” with “great personalities.” However, there are many others who look at the Duke and Duchess with great distaste. 80s star Justine Bateman recently called them out on social media for their “repulsive photo op”, and labeled them “Disaster Tourists.”
Controversy’s Favourite Children
The drama doesn’t end here! Harry and Meghan also volunteered at an Evacuation Center. They met many fire victims there, as well as some first responders. Unfortunately, their “well meaning” effort has turned into a raging controversy. Meghan was photographed hugging a victim at the center. However, people are now calling it a PR stunt. Especially after a claim has gone viral on social media, stating that the woman Meghan hugged is actually her own staff member.
“They leave with the girl she hugs for the camera, she is one of their staff,” the post claimed. Furthermore, they claimed that Meghan only hugged her after Harry pointed out that they were being filmed. At this point, it is unclear who the woman really was. She could have been a volunteer who was working at the center and accompanied the couple to the gate. Perhaps that’s what caused the confusion. Or she really could have been a staff member. We guess we’ll never know.
But one thing that we do know is that Meghan and Harry have truly become controversies favorite children. No matter what they do, it is all seen through a lens of cynicism and distrust.
