The last few weeks have been quite worrying for Coronation Street fans with mass exit news and rumours about the show getting axed—but now, all the rumours have been addressed. So, is the show not going anywhere? And what about the cash crisis, then? Is it finally gone? Was there even any cash crisis in the first place? Let’s find out.
Soap Rumors Have Been Finally Addressed
Back to back, there have been a number of iconic exits from the soap—from Helen Worth to Sue Cleaver- the list is long. As if the exits weren’t enough, just last week, there was also a rumour that the soap might be on the chopping block soon. There were talks that the show will not survive, and be axed soon. But the air has been cleared, and the Mirror confirmed that the show is not going anywhere for now.
Sources have confirmed that the mass exodus is just a normal round of soap exits—while some have decided to leave, some contracts have been terminated. In fact, some of these departures were planned months or about a year ago, and the actors were already aware of it. Sources said that as all the news has been leaked at once, it’s just giving a wrong impression. The news on the horizon is the show is planning a new talent overhaul to bring fresh energy.
Kate Brooks Has Something To Say
Producer Kate Brooks while talking to the Mirror confirmed that Corrie is nowhere on the verge of collapse. In fact, their vision for the show is set for the years to come. Brooks has already hinted at Debbie’s dementia storyline that will air in 2026. Alongside, there will also be new twists, new characters, and even returning faces to keep the plots alive. She also went ahead and talked about the exits and said, “It really is a case of one door closes and another opens in that some familiar faces will be leaving, but others will be back.”
Supporting Brooks, another show spokesperson has talked about the recent rumours of the soap’s ratings taking a nosedive. As the majority of the audience focused on Thursday night’s ratings, the source referred to it as misleading. The reason was quite justified because it wasn’t the soap’s usual transmission pattern. The source further confirmed that the soap’s ratings were much better than implied. In fact, the knife crime episode garnered a viewership of 3.9 million.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for the show to go on for decades. And with the new hints about the new characters coming in and older ones returning back—we can’t hold the excitement. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more news on Coronation Street comings and goings.
