Coronation Street fans will definitely be happy to know that the contract of one of the vintage actors of the show has been renewed. Simon Gregson, who plays the role of Steve McDonald on the soap, has just renewed his contract. Amid the ongoing cast exits from the show, it’s a very happy news for the fans—and we can surely expect some exciting twists.
Gregson Renews His Contract
When Simon’s contract expired late last year, we surely hoped that we would probably not see him again. But recently, he has renewed a year-long contract with the ITV soap—and we couldn’t be happier. An insider source has informed The Sun about the contract renewal and said that he’s a legend and it’s hard to imagine Corrie without him.
Gregson has been playing Steve since 1989. Although he took an extended break from the show in 2015, he returned and has stayed in the same role ever since. It’s definitely a relief for the fans because we have seen a trail of exits in the past couple of months. It started with Helen Worth, but then Sue Cleaver, Charlotte Jordan, Sue Devaney, Luca Toolan, and more lined up for exits.
There’s more good news: both Sally Dynevor, aka Sally Metcalfe, and Michael Le Vell, aka Kevin Webster, have signed one-year contracts with the show. Adding to that, even William Roache has signed a new contract. However, amid the series of cast exits, there have been speculations that the soap is in crisis. But Andrew Whyment was quick to address the rumour and denied all the allegations.
Taking to Instagram, the actor wrote that there is a story about @coronationstreet in the press nearly every day at the moment—and there is no cast revolt going on. He also urged the readers not to believe everything they read. We are more than happy to know that there is no cash crisis going on and we will be seeing our favourites for a long time now.
