Coronation Street actor Jane Danson, who plays the role of Leanne Battersby on the soap opera, has addressed the security of jobs amid the major cast cull. As a part of the show since 1997, she will soon complete 30 years on the show and has witnessed a number of ups and downs first-hand since then.
Danson Reflected On Her Journey
Speaking on This Morning on January 22nd, Jane Danson has shared her thoughts on job security in the ever-changing soap world. Talking about the quick shifts in the soap world, she said, “It’s the most secure job you’ll get in this industry.” The actor further added that when she joined the soap, she never dreamed that her appearance would pan out so long. But next, she contradicted her initial statement by saying, “… even when it’s secure, it’s never secure.”
The actor added, “But I’ve been so grateful. You do change massively, and I never would have anticipated being there that long.” Later, when the show’s soap expert Sharon Marshall teased that they have another 30 years of her, she replied, “Fingers crossed!”. It’s clear Leanne is in no mood to leave the soap anytime soon. Though we are delighted with the news of seeing Danson on screens in the future, many on the soap struggle to make ends meet.
Corrie Actors Are Struggling
Long-time actors like Helen Worth and Sue Cleaver have recently departed from the show. At the same time, other actors like Charlotte Jordan, Colson Smith, and Sue Devaney have lined up for exits. This trail of exits led to a significant rumour of ITV’s cash crisis. Though Kirk Sutherland and Kate Brooks have addressed the rumour and denied them—some Corrie actors are still in trouble.
According to the sources, some actors are not getting enough episodes. And those who are paid per episode are struggling to pay their mortgages. Worse, some actors have even started appearing on ads and personal appearances to support their income. Alongside, there are many like Maureen Lipman and Kate Ford who have been moved to guest contracts as well.
