Coronation Street fans were delighted as a familiar face returned to the sets on the cobbles. The vintage actor came back after almost four years after his exit. Malcolm Hebden, best known for playing the legendary Norris Cole, appeared at Roy’s Rolls along with Chesney Brown, aka Sam Aston.
A Heartwarming Reunion
During a segment on Dancing on Ice, Sam Aston revealed Malcolm’s impact on him as a young actor. After joining the soap as a 10-year-old, Sam shared how Malcolm took him under his wing and became a mentor and a “granddad figure” to him off-screen. Despite their on-screen characters not getting along, their connection was evident as they fondly recalled their days of working together.
As they sat together on the set, Malcolm and Sam cherished their memories of the time they spent filming together. Sam admitted that Malcolm had given him valuable advice early in his career: “Know your lines and don’t be late.” He then humorously acknowledged that he has always tried to carry those lessons with him ever since.
Nostalgic Reunion
Despite their on-screen clashes, when Norris often found young Chesney to be a nuisance—the actors behind the characters formed a deep bond. Malcolm even affectionately referred to Sam as his “surrogate grandson” as Sam expressed gratitude for the wonderful memories he had while growing up.
Malcolm’s return to the cobbles was a treat for the fans, who took to social media to share their excitement. In fact, one viewer even suggested that Norris would come back as a ghost. Even though we also miss Norris, there is still no news of his return. Whether or not Norris will ever return in spirit form remains to be seen, but we will never forget Malcolm.
