Coronation Street and Emmerdale soap fans speculate that ITV might be planning something huge—a crossover of both soaps. Recently, it was revealed that at the start of 2026, there will be a significant schedule change in the soaps. It’s revealed that they will be cutting one episode per week from each soap. With both the soaps airing back to back in 30-minute slots as part of the new soap “Power Hour,” fans speculate that this could pave the way for a crossover event in the future.
Could ITV Soap Stunt Be a Crossover Event?
Theories are now exploding on social media after one fan asked, “Could the ‘stunt’ be a Corrie-Emmerdale crossover episode?”. Another added, “Was thinking this hmm or maybe the same thing happens on both soaps with different outcomes.” Another added, “I’ve been waiting a lifetime for a real crossover.” However, some fans question how IT would handle the crossover.
ITV’s decision to change the soap’s schedule is viewer-led. Research has shown that audiences prefer 30-minute episodes over hour-long ones. As part of the new plan, Emmerdale will air Monday through Friday at 8 PM, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30 PM. Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, explained, “We already give more choice than ever to viewers through ITVX. We want to present their favorite soaps in the most digestible way.”
From fans, the reactions were mixed. While some expressed relief over the shorter episodes, some showed their frustrations. The common reason is that an hour is too long to stay focused on a single episode after a hectic schedule of the day. However, Emmerdale fans do not think like that. In fact, the common emotion among them is that they will miss the one extra episode.
Though there is still no confirmation from the show bosses, we would love to see if a crossover episode is coming up. Until then, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Emmerdale and Coronation Street updates.
