The actress who portrays Cassie in the soap has teased that her character’s manipulation of Ken Barlow will span months to come. She has hinted that the tensions between Cassie and Tracy Barlow will be on the rise going forward.
Cassie Plummer’s Evil Plan
Sweeney has recently opened up about the storyline—and revealed that while Cassie isn’t out to hurt again, she has reasons for keeping him dependent on her. She has confirmed that Cassie’s plot is only just the beginning, as the storyline is playing out over several months.
Cassie has been secretly poisoning Ken to keep him sleepy and relying on her, which makes her an irreplaceable option in his life. According to Sweeney, Cassie sees Ken as someone who truly acknowledges her and values her presence.
She explained, “She doesn’t want to hurt Ken, she’s just keeping him sleepy so he needs her. Ken is the first person who sees her and gives her time and teaches her things – it’s like in Pygmalion, My Fair Lady type of relationship.” However, Cassie’s manipulative tactics are pushing boundaries—and she admitted that the writing team has created a complex character who isn’t purely evil but operates from a place of vulnerability.
While Cassie is laying her trap around Ken, she has also found herself in conflict with his daughter, Tracy Barlow. In fact, she has also hinted that there will be some exclusive scenes between the two in the future. She further adds that Cassie may have underestimated Ken himself. Sweeney acknowledged that Ken Barlow happens to be an intelligent man, and there is no reason to underestimate him.
