Coronation Street seems ready for a trip back in time as it teases a flashback episode that dives deep into Kit’s past. As fans, we have already seen the tension between Kit and his biological mother, Bernie ever since the reunion. But now, the soap will finally reveal a key moment from their past. Actor Jane Hazelgrove who plays Bernie has been spotted, filming scenes set in 2008. The upcoming flashback is going to be exciting and we can’t wait.
Coronation Street: Bernie’s Attempt To Reach Out in 2008
The flashback episode will focus on a time when Bernie tried to make contact with Kit years after giving him up for adoption. It’s unclear what led her to take that decision, but the scene suggests it didn’t go as planned.
On-set images confirm that Hazlegrove has undergone a transformation to shoot the flashback, and she was seen wearing a blonde wig. In one image, she appears to be running away from a young Kit and his foster mom. Another shot shows the young Kit actor chasing after a taxi—most likely the one Bernie is in.
For the first time, we will get to witness the heartbreak of Kit’s childhood, and will see first hand how his mother‘s absence shaped him. Bernie gave birth to Kit, whom she originally named Zodiac, in 1993. Struggling to raise a newborn alongside her then two year old twins, Paul and Gemma, she decided to give him up for adoption. Two years later, she discovered that the green family had taken him and renamed him Kit.
For decades, both Bernie and Kit wrestled with their own struggles around the adoption. When they finally reunited in 2024, Kit made it clear that he didn’t see her as his mother and wanted nothing to do with her. Their relationship remained tense until Paul’s death, as his dying wish was for them to reconcile. As fans, we can’t help but speculate the significance of this flashback scene in the present storyline. How will it impact Kit going ahead? Only the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers can reveal the rest. Until then, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more soap updates.
