EastEnders has announced that legendary character Phil Mitchell will be seen in an extra episode as he seeks help for his mental health issues. The BBC soap is all set to produce a 5-minute episode this Red Nose Day, and they’re working with Comic Relief for the same. To know more details, keep scrolling.
EastEnders Working With Comic Relief and Brandon Centre For The Special Episode
EastEnders spoilers suggest that this extra episode will be focusing on Phil’s mental health while putting light on the importance of its treatment. It will air on Friday, March 21, during Comic Relief: Funny For Money. In the episode Phil will be seen sharing his time with another patient named Andy. Who will share his experience of homelessness at a youth hostel? The two will be seen sharing a bond after realising that they have a lot in common.
To ensure that the storyline is handled with enough sensitivity, BBC soap and Comic Relief consulted with Brandon Centre. It is a charity funded by the organisation and focuses on helping youth with mental support. Executive producer of the show Chris Clenshaw has said that ‘they are thrilled working with Comic Relief and Brandon Centre, as they are also navigating through Phil’s mental health journey and its complexity.’
Samir Patel who is the CEO of Comic Relief also said that ‘Comic Relief has a long and proud history of providing support to all those organisations who are on their way to help people with mental health crisis and homelessness.’ He also thanked EastEnders and Brandon Centre for taking a step towards the same by making such a ‘powerful and poignant film.’
EastEnders Phil Struggling With Mental Health
Over the last few months, fans have seen Phil struggle with depression. The character has been through so much. Either it be his failed marriage or his son facing fraud charges. The Walford hardman was left all alone with his thoughts. He even tried taking his own life during the 40th anniversary episodes. After which he was taken to a mental health unit.
Tackling loneliness and uncontrollable dark thoughts is difficult. But seeking help for the same is very important. Phil’s character is a perfect example of why seeking help is so important.
