Kevin Webster is no stranger to hardship on Coronation Street, but the coming weeks are set to test him in unexpected ways. Life has already thrown plenty at him over the years, but just as things appear to settle, new strains begin to appear– not just in his health. As viewers will soon see, support can sometimes come from the most unlikely places, while trust in familiar ones may start to crack.
A New Friendship Develops as Abi Takes a Step Back
In future scenes, Kevin (Michael Le Vell) is facing another bout of chemotherapy. Abi (Sally Carman), who is normally with him, has to dash off to collect their son Alfie from nursery because he is ill. Having been left alone and on edge in the hospital, Kevin finds himself outside, attempting to compose himself. That‘s when he bumps into Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh), who notices him clearly upset and invites him to return to his house for a cup of tea.
Julie, newly diagnosed with terminal cancer, engages in a candid and sincere conversation with Kevin. Their conversation, begun on a light note, continues as the two find themselves inexplicably comforted by each other’s presence. Abi, meanwhile, is worried when she cannot reach Kevin, and subsequently angry when she discovers where he has been and with whom. Kevin‘s neglect to inform Abi creates tension, suggesting underlying issues in their marriage.
Storm Brewing: The Return of Carl Webster
The tension between Kevin and Abi is only just getting started. In a future plot twist, viewers will meet Kevin‘s brother Carl Webster. He’s a character who has never appeared on screen before. Actor Jonathan Howard is joining the soap as Carl, Kevin and Debbie’s (Sue Devaney) half-brother. Carl was born in Germany in 1986 to another mum but with the same dad, Bill.
Carl’s arrival, scheduled for 11 April, is far from low-key. He instantly argues with Abi over a parking space in a car. Their heated exchange soon turns into something much more passionate. Initially, neither of them was aware of their family connection. But the two shared a passionate moment that could alter everything for Kevin.
