Beyond The Gates Star Karla Mosley, who plays Dani, recently reflected on her journey as Maya in The Bold and the Beautiful. In the soap, she portrayed the role of a transgender woman, a revolutionary character, as it was daytime’s first regular transgender role. However, she later left the soap. Before playing Dani in Beyond the Gates, Karla Mosley portrayed the role of Maya in The Bold and the Beautiful from 2013 to 2020. Recently she opened up about her experience and the reason behind the departure. She said that at that time, she talked to People about playing this character and had mixed feelings about it because she identifies as queer, not transgender.
At first, being a cis woman, she wanted to say no as she found the role inappropriate for her. But later she agreed to do it as without her the story might not have been told. Reflecting on the impact she brought with the storyline, she revealed that she got positive feedback. It helped in healing many communities and families.
But later the actor left the role because she began to have different feelings about the character, finding it inappropriate to continue further. Now, Mosley is portraying the drama as Dani in the new CBS soap – Beyond The Gates.

Meanwhile, in the new soap Dani Dupree is a formal model and is going through a heartbreak. Her husband, Bill Hamilton left her for Hayley leading her to fall into emotional turmoil. Her daughter, Chelsea revealed her her dream of launching a business venture. Initially, she was upset but later felt proud of her. However, she regretted leaving her career for her ex-husband Bill Hamilton. But she won’t move back and continue to create drama in his life.
Back in 2013, daytime had several LGBTQ+ characters and relationships such as All My Children’s Bianca and Reese and Days of Our Lives‘ Will. However, Maya was a transgender woman in 2015 in the show. But in today’s time, daytime is quite open in portraying such roles as in 2018 General Hospital introduced Dr. Terry as a transgender woman.
