Ned Porteous opened up about the big fight between Caleb and Joe. He shared that it was a team effort, as they were just the ingredients in the kitchen. The director and coordinator ensured everyone was safe and, more importantly, everything looked good on camera.
The star added that there is a difference in the scenes when it’s read from a paper and done on-screen. They wanted to show the fight where the person is shown dealing, suffering with pain as a kidney has been removed. They wanted to show how a person feels when pressure is put on the fresh wound.
Porteous shared that the fight was intense. Both the characters were exhausted and in pain while trying to hurt each other. He added that his character, Joe, didn’t want to die but didn’t want to seem afraid either. He reflected on the scenes and said that the first take often feels the most important.

The Emmerdale actor added that the actors work quietly, but the rehearsals are usually more for other people than the actors. He explained how he makes sure that his take goes well. Porteous doesn’t do too much preparation. However, he makes sure that the camera people know where he will be and the audio people know how loud he will get. He added that if everyone goes well in the first scene, then that is the best thing.
