Fans had been wondering what the future holds for this favourite character of Coronation Street in recent weeks. The speculation began when Bethany Platt actress Lucy Fallon was seen progressing professionally outside the ITV soap. The production team has now moved to dispel rumors.
Lucy Fallon’s Absence and the Real Reason Behind It
Lucy Fallon has been a regular Coronation Street face since 2015. She played Bethany Platt through some of the series’ most tear-jerking plotlines.
Her on-screen character left Weatherfield again earlier this year—this time to move back to London. But the exit wasn’t for good; it was scheduled to allow for Lucy’s actual maternity leave, as she had just given birth to her second child, a baby girl named Nancy.
Notwithstanding this backdrop, fans began worrying the worst after Lucy contracted services with an Off Limits talent agency, fueling widespread speculations that she had quit Corrie for good.
However, a Coronation Street rep confirmed to Metro that Lucy would indeed be returning to the sets during the summer.
They calmed fans’ fears by informing them that it had been the plan all along and went on to say that Bethany should be back on screen by October.
The Bumpy Road That Led Bethany Away from Coronation Street
Bethany Platt’s latest return to the cobbles came after she came back from London and rekindled her romance with Daniel Osbourne. In the following year, her life spanned the challenges of studying to become a journalist and the drama of learning that her ex-abuser, Nathan Curtis, was out of jail.
In a dramatic turn of events last autumn, Bethany flew to Turkey for plastic surgery. But the operation ended in disaster. She was left with a permanent stoma bag, a development which changed her life overnight and impacted her relationship with Daniel.
Tensions between Daniel and Bethany grew, particularly with his former fiancée Daisy Midgeley still firmly on the scene. Daniel proposed to Bethany on Christmas Day, and she accepted. But she didn’t realise that Daisy had just found out she was pregnant following a one-night stand with him.
Just when things had gotten complicated enough, Bethany accepted a job offer in London and proposed a trial move to Daniel. Daniel, after a private chat with Daisy, agreed to relocate. Bethany, triumphing, toasted at the Rovers and claimed that they had even arranged a wedding date.
But just as things had finally begun to fall into place, Daisy spoiled Bethany’s happiness by disclosing the secret. She said that Daniel could be the father of her baby. Crushed, Bethany ended the relationship and set off for London on her own. With filming to resume this summer and her return to Coronation Street planned for autumn, her tale is by no means finished.
