Change never comes easily in Coronation Street, and when it hits the Rovers Return, it has a way of rattling more than a few pint glasses. Next week, the future of the pub takes a dramatic turn, and Jenny Connor finds herself at the center of a high-stakes decision that might see her end her chapter at the bar once and for all.
A Business Deal That Went Horribly Wrong
Jenny’s recent fall hasn’t been sudden. Long-time fans will remember that she and Daisy Midgeley acquired almost £250,000, money stolen from Carla Connor’s business accounts by no less than Stephen Reid. Rather than handing it in, they spent the money on purchasing the Rovers and keeping the doors open.
Carla didn’t let the betrayal go unnoticed. When she found out what had transpired, she demanded payment and cut a deal with Jenny and Daisy. But matters soon took another turn for the worse when Carla was struck with a health issue and required private medical attention for a second kidney transplant.
Struck for immediate funds, Carla ditched the payment plan and insisted on the full repayment amount immediately. When the money didn’t materialize, she was left with no option but to put the Rovers on sale.
Jenny attempted to hang on to her cherished pub. Following her inheritance of £60,000 worth of shares, she put in an application for a business loan and placed a request with Carla for first refusal on selling. But Daisy felt betrayed by Jenny’s single-handed intentions and catfished her, with Christina’s assistance, and ran away with the money.
Carla’s New Choice, and Jenny’s Rovers Departure
With her inheritance lost and her loan aspirations shattered, Jenny has been forced to confront reality, her days behind the bar are numbered.
In future scenes, Jenny packs up her belongings as she gets ready to vacate the pub and move into Rita Tanner’s flat.
As she moves on from the Rovers, Ryan Connor moves on to a new job with Debbie Webster. Meanwhile, Carla takes a big managerial move of her own.
Instead of attempting to persuade Jenny to remain, Carla decides to appoint Glenda Shuttleworth as pub manager. The new position doesn’t come without challenges, however. Glenda’s initial shifts are troublesome. And, she makes no bones about alerting Carla to the fact that they are short-handed behind the bar.
Coronation Street: Will Carla Regret Letting Jenny Go?
With Jenny gone and the Rovers suddenly understaffed, Carla may start to question her decision. Glenda is enthusiastic, but without the experience and steady hand that Jenny brought to the bar, things are already slipping.
Will Carla be forced to call Jenny back in, and if so, would Jenny even accept the offer? For now, Jenny is focusing on a new chapter. But her connection to the Rovers, and to the people inside it, runs deep. As Carla tries to steer the pub in a new direction, no one fills Jenny’s shoes easily. And as Weatherfield watches one of its best landladies bow out, many are wondering—was this goodbye truly final?
