While Nicole struggles to stay afloat in the aftermath of her marriage collapse, Martin’s haunting visions grow harder to ignore. Meanwhile, in Beyond the Gates, Leslie continues to alienate everyone around her — but not without hinting she’s still got some cards to play. As secrets fester and public confrontations erupt, everyone’s fighting to regain control in a town that thrives on scandal.
Martin Backs Off, But Something‘s Still Not Right
Martin Richardson can‘t get the nightmares out of his head — snippets of an unnerving past, bursts of light, a mysterious voice telling him, “Let‘s see what color‘s your money.” Believing these nightmares are more than nightmares, he sees Vernon to share something that will shock him: he‘s calling off his low-key campaign for the presidency. In Martin’s estimation, what went down with Ted and Nicole has left one thing plain — family has to come first.
Nevertheless, there‘s more to Martin‘s choice than family honor. Those disjointed memories won‘t allow him to sleep, and something within him is urging him to listen. Is Martin hiding a memory that would turn everything around?
Nicole Re-Emerges And Ted‘s Making Public Moves In Beyond the Gates
Still shaken from her husband‘s infidelity, Nicole spends the morning in bed, canceling appointments. But Dani is not going to let her wallow. With fire in her eyes, Dani tells her sister, “Duprees don‘t run, and we sure as hell don‘t hide.” With an urging to pretend until she prospers, Nicole consents to meet the world — albeit far from recovered.
Meanwhile, Ted‘s already out and about. He takes Eva out to the country club for breakfast — the same club that everything blew up at. That‘s no accident. He wants the town to see them walking in together. And not just anyone, even the ever-vigilant town gossip, Anastasia, sees them sitting across the dining room, smirking with amusement. Enter Nicole and Dani. The timing couldn‘t be worse. Of all places, Dani chose this club to take her sister? It doesn‘t go unnoticed.
Ted Makes a Shocking Vow — While Doug Faces a Dark Threat
Vanessa rushes Nicole away, but Dani lingers long enough to remind Ted and Eva their place: “You may be here as Ted‘s guest, but you mean nothing to the Duprees — and you never will.” And just when you think it can‘t get any more awkward, Anastasia pipes up, dissing Ted, Bill, and the Dupree women‘s taste in men — then has the nerve to flirt with Ted.
Still, Ted stands his ground and tells Nicole she’ll be seeing a lot more of him around town. He even declares he plans to win her back by their next anniversary.
Meanwhile, Elsewhere, Doug continues to blow off Vanessa‘s calls. Joey, clearly exasperated, gets tough. He offers Doug two frightening choices: steal medication from the hospital or enlist Vanessa‘s help to wash money through her real estate operation. When Doug says no to both, Joey threatens him a second time — and gives him one week to pay up, interest included.
Eva Finds an Ally in Beyond the Gates
At Orphey Gene‘s, Leslie naively believes she can get chummy with Jan over a weekend breakfast. But Jan, played by Mona, has no interest in it. Leslie attempts to explain, even becoming emotionalrecounting how Ted insisted she get an abortion. But Jan remains unmoved. She lets Leslie know that while she grew up Eva in hatred, she grew up her own child in love — and there‘s no comparison to be made.
When Eva arrives, feelings rage. She and Leslie have a shouting argument, and Martin, who’s sitting nearby, offers comfort to his half-sister. He tells her she deserves so much better than what she‘s been through and says he’s sorry for the things she‘s suffered. And then Vernon appears, calmly but firmly informing Leslie that he will never forget what she has done.
