Jason’s Comeback Sets the Stage
We already knew Sue Cleaver was leaving her iconic role as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years. What fans didn’t expect was her on-screen son Jason Grimshaw returning to help her say farewell. Ryan Thomas, who played Jason from 2000 to 2016, has made a brief return just in time for Eileen’s send-off.
It’s now confirmed both Eileen and Jason will exit on Friday, June 6. But as their goodbyes loom, another Weatherfield regular may be swept up in the drama.
George Offers a Surprising Twist in Coronation Street
Jason invites Eileen to follow him to Thailand, where he has started a company. He invites her to join him as a business partner. Eileen is tempted but wonders if her partner George Shuttleworth would ever abandon Weatherfield.
In determination to prove her wrong, George pulls out all the stops. He not only offers to relocate with her and Jason but also books a holiday as a “test run.” As if that wasn’t enough, he even proposes! But Eileen doesn’t give a clear yes, leaving their future hanging by a thread. With one foot out the door and one caught in doubt, will Eileen leap with George, or leave him too behind?
Eileen’s Ending Hits All the Right Notes
One thing is sure, Eileen and Jason are departing next week. Sue Cleaver revealed that she had a say in her departure and desired Eileen’s exit to be representative of her own need for change. She referred to the last scenes as “wonderful” and maintained that they felt just right.
Sue also admitted she spoke to Ryan personally about coming back. She rang him more than a year ago to let him know she hoped he could return for her last storyline. Ryan didn’t bluff, saying to her he’d definitely be there.
