Summer Bay may be full of chaos, but Home and Away star Shane Withington is enjoying something a little calmer right now. The actor, best known for playing the occasionally grumpy but always entertaining John Palmer, was recently spotted soaking up the charm of Kilkenny, Ireland.
From Surf Club to Irish Pubs
Fans in Kilkenny were in for a surprise when the beloved Aussie actor was spotted exploring one of Ireland’s most picturesque towns. Withington reportedly stopped by the iconic Kilkenny Castle, soaking in its charm, before heading over to Kytelers Inn for a well-earned meal and, of course, a pint of Guinness.
No surfboard in sight, no yelling across the Diner, and no River Boys to chase down, just good food, good beer, and a bit of peace and quiet. Not a bad break from the Bay!
Palmer’s Packed Past in Home and Away
On-screen, John Palmer is anything but quiet. Since joining Home and Away in 2009, Shane’s character has ticked off quite the soap checklist. He’s had two marriages, owning the local Surf Club, adopting a son, and yes, even committing arson. Let’s just say his track record in Summer Bay is a little more dramatic.
But fans love him for it. Over the years, John has gone from being the guy everyone found difficult to one of the most endearing characters. It seems like he has got more layers than a classic soap plot twist.
For an actor who’s played such a chaotic character, Shane’s Irish adventure is refreshingly low-key. There were no dramatic exits, no mysterious reunions, just a man enjoying a peaceful vacay. After 16 years of drama-filled days in Summer Bay, you could say he’s earned it.
And while this trip was purely off-screen, fans can’t help but smile seeing him take time to unwind. Want to keep up with all your favourite Home and Away stars on and off the screen? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest updates, spoilers, and cast sightings.
