Gary has been in a coma in Coronation Street. While Maria and the rest of Weatherfield have been worried sick, no one really knew what happened to him. However, a series of flashbacks have finally revealed how he ended up in that hospital bed and who was responsible.
She Stayed Quiet All Along
In recent episodes, Maria has been losing it trying to figure out where Gary disappeared to. She has been asking around, fearing the worst, and doing everything she can to find answers. Meanwhile, Lou Michaelis has been quietly sitting at Gary’s hospital bedside, pretending to be his wife.
She never told Maria. She didn’t even tell anyone that Gary was alive. Now we understand that her reason wasn’t kindness; it was guilt. Flashbacks explain what really happened between Gary and Lou.
And the truth is just shocking.
Coronation Street: Gary Threatened Her, and She Snapped
Before Gary became unconscious, he and Lou had a heated argument. Gary found out about her blackmail and told her he was going to report her to the police. Lou panicked and begged him not to do it, terrified of what might happen to her kids.
But when Gary suggested her children might be better off without her, something in Lou broke. She snapped and struck him with a metal pole. Gary collapsed, bleeding and unconscious.
As she stood frozen, Nina and Summer walked by, high on LSD. They thought they were seeing things and ran away, scared out of their minds. Lou didn’t call for help; she just waited.
Eventually, a dog walker found Gary and called an ambulance. That’s when Lou stepped in, told the staff she was his wife, and took control of the situation without revealing the truth.
Gary Opens His Eyes, But Lou Misses Her Chance
Back in the hospital, Lou sat with Gary again and told him she was sorry. She admitted she didn’t mean to hurt him; she just wanted to stop him from going to the police. That’s also why she had been staying so close, wanting to be there when he woke up.
But fate had other plans. Just minutes after she left the room, Gary’s eyes flickered open. Now that he’s awake, it won’t be long before the truth comes out for real this time.
