Dev Alahan’s just landed back in Weatherfield after his trip to India, and he’s walked straight into a mess. While he’s happily catching up and looking forward to his wedding with Bernie Winter in Coronation Street, there’s a whole lot going on behind his back, and it looks like Bernie’s in a sudden hurry to say “I do.”
Aadi’s Big Mistake Is Still Hanging
While Dev was off visiting family, he left the corner shop in Aadi’s hands. But instead of keeping things afloat, Aadi ended up landing himself in trouble. He ran the business into £12,000 worth of debt and panicked about what to do.
Rather than tell Dev the truth, Aadi asked Brody to help stage a fake robbery at the shop. The plan was to claim the insurance money and use it to clear the debts. But Bernie was quick to spot that something wasn’t right. When she questioned Aadi, he eventually admitted everything.
Bernie agreed to keep quiet, not for Aadi’s sake alone, but to protect Brody’s relationship with Kit as well. Then Dev came home and heard about the so-called robbery. He didn’t seem angry. In fact, he was just relieved that Aadi was safe. He told him handing over the money was the right thing and praised him for not doing anything foolish.
But Bernie kept a close eye. When Aadi mentioned the insurance would cover the loss, she noticed he looked uncomfortable. She pressed him again, and this time he confessed he hadn’t paid the insurance premium. So, the robbery wasn’t covered. There’d be no payout.
Bernie Finds A Way To Fix It in Coronation Street
That left Bernie in a tough spot. But then Dev let slip that one of his aunts had promised to give them £25,000 towards the wedding. Dev, as we know, doesn’t hold back when it comes to weddings. His big white-horse entrance at his 2004 wedding to Sunita still lives rent-free in our heads.
So, the £25k gift wasn’t a shock but to Bernie, it sounded like the perfect solution. She quietly decided that bringing the wedding date forward could help cover the mess Aadi had made. It would look like she just wanted to tie the knot sooner, but in reality, it meant plugging the financial hole before Dev found out.
Right now, Dev’s unaware of the real reason Bernie wants to speed things up. He thinks they’re just excited to get married. But if the truth about the fake robbery or the insurance mess comes out, it could throw everything off balance. Bernie’s plan might keep things calm for now, but there’s a lot that could happen.
