Looks like Coronation Street could be waving goodbye to not one but two familiar faces. Abi Webster and Carl Webster are at breaking point, and with their secret affair on the verge of being exposed, Abi comes up with a plan that could see them leaving Weatherfield behind for good.
How It All Started
Abi’s fling with Carl has been bubbling away for a while now. It all began with stolen looks and sparks flying, but things soon moved on to secret afternoons at the Chariot Square Hotel. The complication is Carl is Kevin Webster’s younger brother. Abi tried to hold back for a long time. She told herself she couldn’t do that to Kevin, especially when he was dealing with cancer treatment.
But then Kevin pretended he was still ill just to keep her close, and once Abi found out, she gave in to her feelings for Carl. From that point, there was no going back. Tracy Barlow soon clocked what was going on and started blackmailing them to fund her divorce. Meanwhile, Kevin had no idea about the affair. He was just over the moon to be cancer free, picturing a cosy future with Abi, growing old together, fixing up old cars. Trouble was, Abi couldn’t see herself in that picture anymore.
Abi’s Big Plan in Coronation Street
Eventually, Abi knew she had to end things with Kevin. She finally braced herself and decided their marriage was over. With that weight off her shoulders, she ran to Carl, certain that now they could finally be together. But Abi didn’t just want to be with Carl, she wanted out of Weatherfield completely.
She told him they should leave the cobbles and start fresh somewhere else, far from Kevin and far from the neighbours who’d no doubt take his side once the truth came out. Carl, though, didn’t exactly jump at the idea. He hesitated, and that left Abi wondering how committed he really was. And just as they were figuring things out, Debbie walked in and caught them together. Her shock made it clear their secret wasn’t going to stay a secret much longer.
Could This Be Goodbye?
With Debbie now in the loop, Abi feels more certain than ever that they can’t stick around. Carl, on the other hand, still isn’t sure about packing up and leaving everything behind. But once their affair becomes public knowledge, it’s hard to imagine them surviving the fallout.
Kevin is bound to be crushed. His dreams of a future with Abi will fall apart, and the Webster family will never be the same again. And if Abi and Carl really do go through with leaving, Coronation Street could be facing a dramatic double exit that no one saw coming.
