Carl Webster has left a trail of damage since his arrival in Coronation Street. His secrets, lies and affairs have pushed families to breaking point. Now, actor Jonathan Howard has spoken about what lies ahead, and he warned that Carl’s secrets will soon explode into the open. The question is: who will step up when the truth finally surfaces?

Carl’s Messy Past in Coronation Street

Carl wasted no time pulling his half-brother Kevin into shady garage deals that put family bonds at risk. He then began a romance involving Kevin’s wife Abi, a storyline that led to Abi walking away from her marriage.

As if that wasn’t enough, Carl also had a fling involving James Bailey. That twist only added more heat to his already chaotic life. He also found himself wrapped into storylines involving Tracy Barlow and Tyrone Dobbs. Wherever Carl moves, chaos seems to follow, and now the impact of his actions is about to catch up to him.

Clashes Around the Corner

Speaking at the 2025 Inside Soap Awards, Jonathan Howard explained that Carl’s behaviour cannot stay hidden forever. He revealed that Carl is about to face angry confrontations once his affairs and betrayals come to light.

Howard said Carl’s impulsive and selfish choices will come back on him hard. He teased that Kevin will be one of the first to face him head-on, warning that the clash will be explosive. The actor, known for roles in Holby City and Hollyoaks, made it clear that Carl cannot continue escaping the fallout. At some point, every secret has to break.

Not a Villain, Just Reckless

Even after everything Carl has done, Howard insisted he should not be seen as a full-blown villain. He said he enjoys playing Carl because it allows him to act out devious and selfish choices he would never make in real life. But he stressed that Carl is not evil, just desperate and rash.

Howard explained that Carl acts in the moment, making snap choices to protect himself. Those choices are rarely good ones, and that is what makes his storyline so dangerous. He called Carl a man driven by bad judgment rather than a murderer or a soap super-villain.

But more fallout is on the way. Sally Carman, who plays Abi, has hinted that her character could soon uncover Carl’s fling involving James Bailey. If Abi finds out, Carl will face even bigger questions and even fewer allies. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street updates and drama.
