Natalie Cassidy’s EastEnders rehearsal was meant to be routine. But something went wrong. In the middle of acting out a birth scene, she felt a sharp crack in her chest. The pain was real, not scripted. What started as drama on set turned into a frightening accident that no one expected. What really happened next? Keep scrolling to learn more.
Natalie Cassidy’s Painful EastEnders Memory
Natalie played Sonia Fowler in the BBC soap. However, after months of leaving it, she has spoken about one of her toughest moments filming. During the 40th anniversary scenes, Sonia gave birth in a collapsing Queen Vic. While filming the scene, she gave everything to the scene.
Natalie was recently on What’s My Age Again podcast, where she revealed to Katherine Ryan how she really went for it while rehearsing. While she was filming the labour scene, she strained herself. She even ended up with a fractured sternum. She said, “I really went for it. I was straining when I was acting out giving birth. And I did it live for EastEnders live. I had to give birth live, so there was quite a lot of nerves.”

There was so much pressure because it was a live show. However, Natalie’s body couldn’t keep it. Days before her big broadcast, she had felt something strange in her chest. “I went for it, really went for it, and my sternum popped out,” she said. “It popped out, but I kept rehearsing,” she said, not knowing it would get worse. However, despite being in so much, she didn’t pause. She kept filming, let no one down, but afterwards, she knew something was wrong.
Natalie’s Hospital Visit And A Shocking Discovery
When she wrapped her filming, she went to the hospital. Even the doctors were surprised when the result came. She had got her sternum fractured. The doctor told, “Have you checked your bones because that is mad, that is a car accident, and you’ve done that to yourself,” she shared.

She realised she’d gone too far in rehearsals and started looking after her health with osteoporosis treatment. Natalie once more reminisced about her time being a part of the show in September. She mentioned that quitting the soap gave her a sensation of openness which she hadn’t experienced before.
“Leaving has been really freeing. I’m feeling liberated and just happy,” she said to Prima. She praised the show that made her a star. Could Sonia Fowler return to the Queen Vic again? For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
