It’s not EastEnders calling this time. Shona McGarty has traded the Square for the sun, landing in Australia with that same spark fans remember. The actress, known for years as Whitney Dean, joked her way through the airport as she joined the I’m A Celebrity crowd. It’s a new stage, but the same Shona. Keep scrolling to learn more.
EastEnders’ Favourite Lands With A Laugh
Shona touched down at Brisbane Airport this week. When she reached, she looked full of energy and was smiling despite travelling for long hours. Everybody was waiting to hear her comments. It is because she is one of the most familiar faces in British soaps. However, despite cameras focusing on her, she was relaxed.
When asked how she felt arriving in Australia, she laughed, “I got on the wrong flight.”. She further added, “I thought it said Austria. I’m gonna have to ask for directions back now.” Those who have seen her character Whitney on screen know exactly her kind of humour. She is always this playful, natural kind of woman, and she doesn’t even try too hard.

She was later asked what she would miss about the UK. For this, she had a simple answer: “not a lot. “I really want to see a kangaroo. I’ve never seen one before.” It’s a completely new chapter for Shona. Before this, she had said goodbye to the BBC soap. It was here that she became the most loved character. And she was a major part of the soap for so many years. However, now, she is landing straight into the Australian jungle.
A Busy Line-Up Joins The Jungle
The new season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is packed. Many stars have flown to Australia for the new series. And Shona’s name is amongst them. The show begins on Sunday, November 16.
Also, on the same day, many fellow stars landed in Australia. Even Lisa Riley did, but she tried to fool her fans by claiming she was still in Leeds. Other names who might join are Loose Women’s Kelly Brook, then YouTuber Morgan Burtwistle, also known as Angryginge. Musician Martin Kemp, comedian Ruby Wax, TV presenter Alex Scott and Jack Osbourne might also appear.

However, ITV has not yet confirmed the official lineup. It will release the names by next week. Elsewhere, some insiders are saying two more celebrities will join later as surprise entries. Kelly Brook equally communicated about the gossip of her arrival. She expressed, “I haven’t seen my auntie Sheila for ages, so I am really looking forward to seeing her.” Later on, she was also quoted as saying, “I am really looking forward to surfing… and seeing my distant cousin whom I haven’t seen for a very long time, the koala and the kangaroos.”
Elsewhere, fans are excited to see Shona once again. She even looks ready for anything. When fans wished her luck from behind the barriers, she gave a warm smile. Viewers can see her bringing the same realness which she once brought to Whitney Dean. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
