Sometimes real life hits harder than any soap storyline, and fans of Home and Away are feeling that right now. One of the show’s familiar faces has opened up about something incredibly tough, and her honesty has left everyone a little shaken and very protective of her.

The Worry That Started Months Ago

Alea O’Shea, who many of us remember as Darcy Callahan from her appearances between 2011 and 2017, recently explained that she hasn’t been feeling right for quite a while. She said it all began about six months ago, when she started getting strong migraines and even noticed her smile looking a bit uneven. She also mentioned that talking started to feel strangely difficult, which obviously made her stop and pay attention. Things got scarier when she was in Los Angeles.

Out of nowhere, she lost feeling in two fingers, her wrist, and one toe. That’s when she went to a physiotherapist, and he apparently told her straight away that this was more serious than anything he could handle. He sent her for a brain scan immediately. Before all of that, she had a biopsy done on her birthday, and she spent weeks waiting for answers. She said she was stuck in limbo the whole time, unsure of what was coming. But once the doctors finally gave her clarity, she felt she needed to come forward and share what has been happening.

Home And Away: Alea Opens Up About Her Diagnosis

Alea posted a video saying she had been diagnosed with brain cancer at just 25. She told viewers she never imagined she would ever record something like that, and she admitted these past few weeks have been completely overwhelming. The Home and Away actor said she chose to be open because she wants to live life as normally as possible while she’s fighting this. She also encouraged people to trust their gut when something feels wrong, adding that finding the right professionals made a huge difference for her.

Even in the middle of all this, she kept her humour. She joked that she couldn’t flip anyone off, give a thumbs-up, or hold things properly right now. But she said the good news is that the spot in her brain won’t affect her personality, and she promised she’ll still be her chatty, hilarious self. Alea also explained what comes next. Alea has surgery ahead of her, and doctors have warned her that complications are possible, including paralysis and losing her hair. She told everyone she might disappear sometimes, but she’ll show up whenever she can.

Once Alea shared her news, the support from the Home and Away cast came pouring in instantly. Dan Ewing, her on-screen dad Heath Braxton, told her she had this fight handled and cheered her on. Georgie Parker, who plays Roo Stewart, called her mighty and said she was sending huge love and strength her way. Juliet Godwin, who plays Bree Cameron, dropped a heart emoji to show she’s standing with her. Alea ended her message by thanking everyone who follows her and has supported her over the years.
