Emmerdale fans brace up, as another past character could be well on their way back to the Dales. Adam Thomas who recently appeared on Strictly Dancing, was also once an Emmerdale mainstay. He was popular for portraying the role of Adam Barton for nine long and successful years, before he bid the ITV soap a goodbye.
Recently, the actor appeared on the Lorraine show, where he teased a possible comeback for his character. When Lorraine Kelly asked him about returning to the soap, Adam Thomas revealed that the door was never shut on that possibility. “Never say never. With Emmerdale, it was a huge part of my life,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Adam revealed that he was on the soap for eight or nine years and that it was a very long time. Adam believes that acting is the best job in the world and that it is pretty quick as well. He first debuted as Adam Barton in the Yorkshire-based soap back in 2009. Nine years later, in 2028, he left the show after admitting to Emma Barton’s murder.
Interestingly, despite his confession, Adam did not end up in prison. However, it was the last we saw of his much-loved character on the ITV soap. Although he confessed to the murder, it was actually Moira Dingle who had done the crime. Adam wanted to save his mother from going to prison. She had pushed Emma from a viaduct in 2017.

In 2018, Adam exited the soap when Aaron and Cain broke him out of a prison van, took him to the dock and made him escape with money on a cargo ship to France. Thus, it is safe to assume that the open exit leaves the door wide open for Adam to return at any point. In fact, this would actually be the perfect time for his return as Mira is suffering from a deadly health condition!
