EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, who played Jay Brown in the soap, was suspended from the show due to a video which portrayed derogatory language against disabled people and the residents of Blackpool. Scroll ahead to know more!
EastEnders Suspends Jamie!
Last November, Borthwick was caught on a phone recording making offensive remarks to the people of the seaside town, Blackpool. The derogatory term was strongly criticised by Blackpool Council’s Tory group leader, Paula Galley. He called these remarks horrible. Then the BBC issued a statement and said that the language was and doesn’t fit in the standards of the BBC. Thus, they took a bold move.
BBC suspended Jamie, who joined EastEnders in 2006. Then the actor also apologised to the publication, sharing that he was sorry for his words that he used in the video while filming Strictly Dance Coming. He said that he was sorry for his words and actions. Jamie added that it was his fault that he didn’t understand the derogatory term he used. He also shared that while making the video, he was excited and didn’t realise his mistake.
The Actor Apologises For His Offensive Remark!
The former EastEnders star added that he enjoyed his time in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The people over there are amazing, along with the fantastic Strictly cast and crew members. He concluded by saying sorry again. Meanwhile, the video also included Wynne Evans. Then they were told they would be a part of the Strictly Live Tour.
Then Jammie used the slur. The disability campaigners and the residents of the town disliked it. Warren Kirwan, who is the media manager at disability equality, said that such kind of language isn’t acceptable as disabled people feel bad. The media manager added that such negative attitudes hold disabled people back, so the actor needs to reflect on what he said.
Furthermore, in April, a video of him and Wynne buzzed as they were larking around with a sex toy. Earlier, Wynne was removed from the tour due to misbehaviour and making sexual comments around colleagues. He was caught making an inappropriate joke at Janette Manara during a photoshoot. However, the actor said he was addressing Jamie, whom they called spit roast boy, as he could twist his legs over his head like a roast chicken. Meanwhile, he shared that they did not renew his BBC Radio Wales contract after an investigation. Keep following Soap Opera Daily for more EastEnders updates!
