ITV may have insisted that Corriedale was a one-time event, but new behind-the-scenes moves are telling a very different story. After the explosive crossover hour that brought together Coronation Street and Emmerdale, the broadcaster has now dropped its biggest hint yet that the soap mash-up could return.
ITV’s Trademark Move Makes Fans Suspicious
The crossover episode launched ITV’s new “soap power hour” format and instantly set social media buzzing. Centred around a devastating multi-vehicle pile-up, the special episode delivered high-stakes drama, surprise returns, and two major deaths that left viewers stunned. While ITV previously dismissed the idea of a follow-up, a new trademark filing suggests the story may not be over just yet.
According to records from the Intellectual Property Office, ITV filed a trademark for the black-and-white Corriedale logo through its London office on December 17, with the application officially published on January 2.
The timing has raised eyebrows, especially given how quickly the crossover became one of ITV’s most talked-about soap events in recent years. The trademark extends to sound and video recordings, downloadable media, and recorded TV programmes.
Why This Doesn’t Feel Like A One-Off
ITV bosses previously described the episode as a standalone experiment designed to launch the new scheduling format, airing after the usual solo episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street. At the time, the broadcaster maintained there were no plans for future crossovers.
Executive producer Iain MacLeod explained that the idea came from his own frustration commuting along the M62 between Manchester and Leeds, which inspired the concept of two soap worlds colliding.
Despite those comments, the scale of the trademark protection suggests ITV may be keeping its options wide open. While no official confirmation of another crossover has been made, the move implies ITV sees long-term value in Corriedale as more than a one-night event. For many fans, that alone feels like a major clue that the door remains firmly open. Viewer reaction has only added fuel to the speculation.
Fans took to Reddit to share their excitement and hopes for more crossovers. One wrote that “CorrieDale felt like just the beginning,” while another admitted they wished the format had lasted a full week, even if it meant putting the regular soaps on pause. With ITV securing the Corriedale name across multiple platforms and fans loudly demanding more, the question now isn’t whether another crossover could happen.
