Are Coronation Street And Emmerdale BETTER Than EastEnders?

EastEnders writers are facing backlash for recent storylines. Fans accuse writers of hiding serious women’s issues under too many plot twists and side stories. Viewers think Honey’s perimenopause and Penny’s pregnancy deserve more focus.

Instead, the soap is using identity fraud and paternity mysteries. Also, some fans credit rival shows like Coronation Street and Emmerdale for giving enough screen time to characters. Keep scrolling to learn more.

EastEnders Fans Think Major Women’s Issues Are Overlooked

Critics argue that Penny’s journey as a mother with a disability was a fresh perspective. However, the soap ruined it with a “who’s the daddy” trope. In fact, fans also find it absurd that Honey’s health transition is now in competition with a “secret auntie” and credit card fraud.

Many of them are also calling out Vinny as they think he is becoming manipulative regarding a new business venture. Hence, fans think this mirrors his father’s toxic traits. Some viewers think that Emmerdale or Coronation Street handle serious topics better. As we know, due to some business work, Vinny didnt accompany Penny to the scan. Hence, she had to visit it alone.

That’s when she learnt that she is further along in the pregnancy. And that’s what it took to realise that Vinny isn’t the father. Elsewhere for Honey’s perimenopause storyline fans had a lot of expectations. However, the soap focused more on Bea causing problem rather than giving the character some space to deal.

What Fans Are Saying On Reddit

One user wrote, “It’s bad enough that EE uses women as nothing more than breeding machines. Another added, “I agree completely! They never give us time with the character. It’s always something, ugh, going on.”

A third user shared, “It’s such a shame. Showing pregnancy and raising a baby as a wheelchair user has the potential to be a really interesting storyline. But I think they are going to kill her off (flash forward with Jack and a crying baby). Either way, all the nonsense with paternity and Suki is such a distraction.”

EastEnders: Penny Branning
EE/Penny’s character deserves better.

Someone else wrote, “Some of the most impactful stories have been things like Phil’s mental health that are given space to develop and explore his background and how that led to that point.” Adding further, the user said, “Compare that to the Zoe storyline, where it’s long twins, who then get separated. And one of them has a mysterious past, and one ends up in prison, and they date the same guy…it’s ridiculous. They could’ve shown Zoe dealing with the impact of finding her kids and the emotional fallout.”
