It has been months since Doug McBride’s life has been out of control. He was once a respected heart surgeon, and everything was going smoothly for him. However, things turned worse when his gambling problem brought him down. Every bet that he played and every late night at Lakeview Casino weakened him until there was nothing left to fight for.
His career, his marriage, everything began to crumble. He has a huge number of debts to deal with. Viewers could watch the casino owner, Joey Armstrong, as he firmly exercises his control over Doug’s life. However, soon it all reached its breaking point this week. Doug finally had a winning streak. He could finally breathe easily and wanted to tell his wife, Vanessa. He needed to tell them that things may finally change for them. However, she never picked up his calls. She was having an affair with Joey, and this made Doug’s problems worse.
However, moments later, Doug’s car crashed off the road. Flames consumed the car, and there was no hope that Doug would survive. Vanessa, however, doubted that Joey could be behind her husband’s death. Joey denied those claims, though. He said he wasn’t in any way connected to his death. However, fans are not convinced. After all, soap villains rarely leave a trace behind.
Beyond The Gates Spoilers: Goodbye On Set Leaves No Room For Doubt
Fans wanted to believe that there might be some twist behind it. However, Lauren Buglioli, who plays Vanessa, shared a behind-the-scenes video of Jason’s final day as Doug. The cast and crew surrounded him, saying their goodbyes. Jason called everybody his “family”.
Buglioli said goodbye on and off-screen. And Jon Lidstrom called him one of his best co-stars. This is a confirmation for all the fans that Doug will not return to the soap in any way. His character ended after seven long months.
Now that he is gone, Vanessa is already torn between grief and betrayal. She still suspects Joey behind all this. However, for viewers, this is a goodbye that hurts.
