Kat Richardson‘s detective skills are more acute than ever, and with her appearance on the May 22 episode of Beyond the Gates, she shows she may be the one to open up this case wide enough to see the truth. Secrets are mounting and suspicions rising, and one feisty daughter has had enough of sluggish police investigation, and starts drawing the connections quicker than anyone else in Fairmont Crest. Let‘s get to the bottom of what did happen and what‘s next.
Kat Drops the Bomb on Nicole and Ted
Kat is not giving up on getting to the bottom of what actually happened to Laura and who has been secretly working with Leslie. Wednesday, she finally decides it is time to bring her parents into it.
When she informs Ted and Nicole both about the hit-and-run and the IV tampering, reactions are quick and revealing.
Nicole feels unsafe working at the hospital the moment she does, and Ted insists Eva couldn‘t have been involved and puts the blame directly on Leslie. Ted‘s determination is at loggerheads with Kat, who‘s certain Eva‘s involved in her mother‘s plan for revenge.
In an effort to sort out the mess, Nicole calls in Jacob, who‘s been probing the affair—but even he‘s caught up in Kat‘s speed. Jacob’s slower pace leaves Kat frustrated, but she doesn’t sit around waiting. Instead, she takes matters into her own hands and tracks down someone we’ve all been waiting to hear from: Nurse Shanice.
Beyond the Gates: A Break in the Case, Thanks to Nurse Shanice
Kat‘s dialogue with Shanice proves to be well worth it. The nurse reports that the night Laura‘s IV was spiked, she noticed a strange woman at the computer terminal. The woman was giving Shanice some bad vibes and disappeared soon afterward—never heard from again.
Shanice believes the woman had to be from an insurance company, but viewers know the reality already: gotta be Nurse Lulu Lenhart, one of the various aliases Leslie‘s employed throughout the years.
Kat hasn‘t figured it out yet, but she‘s on the right track, and if Jacob ever goes back and checks the hospital‘s surveillance footage, all the pieces could fall into place.
Leslie might have thought she was covering her bases, but Kat is close to catching her in the act. It won’t be long before she and Jacob connect the dots—but they have to hurry. Leslie is cunning and deadly when trapped.
An Unexpected Soap Easter Egg
Meanwhile, another small plot twist served up a nostalgic treat for soap fans of long standing. While Nicole was visiting patient “June,” she and Naomi attempted to get the woman to spill her true identity. June finally insists that she is Jessica Griffin, wed to a man named Duncan whose wife, Shannon, returned from the dead.
Of course, Nicole is quick to catch the reference. It‘s not an actual backstory—it‘s the classic plot from As the World Turns, in which BTG‘s own Tamara Tunie originally played Jessica Griffin. Whata terrific little wink at daytime drama history!
Though June‘s secret life is still a mystery for the moment, the Easter egg was a great nod to devoted viewers who have been watching these actors for decades. Tune in to Soap Opera Daily for all your Beyond the Gates spoilers, teasers, and behind-the-scenes news!
