The golden boy- Martin, has left the viewers baffled, unsure of how to feel about him.

Martin is seen as the ideal member of the Dupree family. He respects his family members, especially his grandfather, Vernon. He is considered to be a devoted husband to Smitty and a responsible father to his kids, Tyrell and Samantha. Martin appears to be a successful, ambitious and progressive gay politician with a stable family.
But is he really as perfect as he portrays? Martin’s true personality gets reflected when things don’t go his way. He reacts rudely when his grandfather criticizes his decision to explore a run for the President without consulting him. His traditional nature gets exposed when his partner Smitty expresses a desire to return to work. So, what’s his reaction?

He insists that Smitty’s only job is to stay at home, do the laundry, attend PTA meetings and make sure Tyrell passes calculus. He immediately rejects the potential job offer, expecting him to remain a stay-at-home parent. Not only that, Martin has no intention of helping his husband with any of these tasks.
Martin sees himself as a progressive gay politician but his actions contradict his beliefs. He fails to understand that both parents are equally responsible for their children. He isn’t a typical villain who cheats, schemes or commits crimes but his hypocrisy and rigidness make him a complex antagonist, leaving the viewers unsure of how to react to his behavior.
